Torlowei, a Nigerian-British fashion brand with a truly unique story. At its heart is the inspiring collaboration today of a mother-daughter duo, Patience Torlowei and Mojisola Adegbile, stemming from Patience's founding of the label back in 2017. Originally known for her prints, the Torlowei atelier in Lagos grew in reputation as the secret weapon behind many of the most beautiful bespoke creations. But it was during Covid when Patience was waylaid in Belgium that her love of vintage lingerie and lace took over her creative passions and she pivoted towards creating the light, sensual pieces you see today.
More than just exquisite lingerie, Torlowei represents a beautiful fusion of art, culture, and a deep commitment to ethical craftsmanship. The brand meticulously sources exclusive materials from expert artisans in France, Italy, and Switzerland. These exquisite fabrics are then further refined and transformed by Torlowei’s own ateliers in Lagos, Nigeria, and Tangier, Morocco. Patience has trained her artisans in Lagos in the art of lace placement and inlay - a painstaking process that cuts into lace pieces to inlay them onto the lightest of silks, or embroider small, cutaway pieces in a way that creates movement and detail. Torlowei established their Moroccan atelier in order to leverage the expertise of the artisans there with the silhouette, cut and finesse of lingerie finishing. This international collaboration, spanning continents and cultures, underscores the brand's unique position as a bridge between diverse traditions, creating pieces that are not only beautiful but also imbued with a sense of global artistry. What truly sets Torlowei apart is its unwavering dedication to ethical craftsmanship and sustainability, using all their offcuts to create their signature petals that float at the ends of their ties and ribbons.
