Though a late arrival to our maddening obsession with the ’90s and early noughties - low-rise jeans have been at it for nearly five years - it was perhaps only a matter of time before Miu Miu’s bubbles floated back into fashion’s periphery. After all, once a decade has been mined for its silhouettes, sins and styles, there are only so many places left to look. Namely: below, at the feet.

Long heralded as a holy-grail eBay find, the Miu Miu Bubble Shoe feels like one of the more welcome relics to emerge from the turn of the millennium. It distilled the era’s fascination with futuristic, space-age design into something remarkably wearable: part technical trainer, part high-fashion boot, part Mary Jane, and entirely for the ’90s woman. Perhaps that’s Miu Miu’s trick: knowing nostalgia works best when it gives us something we didn’t know we were missing. The brand has not merely brought the bubble back; it has made us froth at the mouth for it.
