Sustainability on Show
Akyn returns to TANK for a community-forward new pop-up.
This spring, Akyn returns to TANK GPS for their second pop-up in the exhibition space, allowing guests an opportunity to shop its new denim capsule, alongside hosting community-building events.
Collaboration is in Amy Powney’s DNA. After stepping back as creative director of Mother of Pearl in late 2024, her decision to build a new brand from the ashes of the previous was one steeped in a desire to be progressive, environmentally conscious and above all, socially engaged: Akyn, founded in early 2025, derives from the words “atelier” and “kin”. Each piece is made ethically and robustly – whether in their London atelier or Portuguese manufacturers – with traceable production and materials which are built to last.
The pop-up, which will take place between the 17th and 21st of March in the TANK exhibition space, is the second of its kind, after an initial, successful foray last November. The room is split in two: on one side, a chronology of rails guides you through the current and upcoming collections that you can buy online or pre-order, and on the other, an see-now, buy-now introduction to their new Denim Guide, which showcases their four signature silhouettes: Sol, Sol Straight, Blake and Dylan.
“Recycled cotton is the holy grail,” says Amy, explaining her approach to sustainability. Akyn’s four “core fibres” – cotton (organic, regenerative and/or recycled, of course), European flax linen, RWS-certified wool, and Tencel – allow for pieces which are long-lasting and wearable, and not to mention stylish. “I’ve always felt the pull to respond to the world around me,” she says. Case in point: In lieu of more standard designs, an array of “bespoke” buttons adorn each coat or cardigan, cast from hagstones, shells and other memorabilia of natural life, foraged or sourced sustainably by Amy and her team.
Amy is hosting two styling workshops (this Thursday and Saturday), book your slot to hear how Amy recommends how to pull together outfits to make sure you feel both conscious and confident (see below). Otherwise, pop in any time between now and the 21st during the opening hours: RSVP with liana@akyn.com to book your time and be welcomed on arrival.
