At this time of year, we all know that the great outdoors can wreak havoc with our hair. Tresses, once glossy and full of life, can become dull, dry and brittle in a matter of weeks. That’s why a well-thought-out survival kit – you know, the kind you'd build before spending a few months in the wilderness – is worth its weight in gold.

Essential to avoiding a winter ‘do’-induced breakdown, our tried-and-tested selection will get you through the hairiest of times. (Pun intended!)

R+Co's OBLIVION Conditioner
The first step in ensuring hair doesn’t fall victim to the harsh temperature switchover, is stocking your bathroom cabinet with a rich, hydrating conditioner. We're fans of R + Co's OBLIVION – a nourishing oil-in-gel hybrid, in which 80% of the product is oil alone. Basically, you can bet your bottom dollar that it's hella’ hydrating! Its jelly-like texture takes some getting used to, but, trust us, with a concoction of almond, coconut and peach kernel, the results are definitely worth it.

Aēsop's Rose Moisturising Mask
When the situation is truly dire, and you're beginning to forget what soft, velvety locks feel like, turn to Aēsop's intensive Hair And Scalp Masque. Our favourite is made with rose petal extract and beta-carotene to deeply condition and revitalise lifeless strands. Apply when your hair is damp, and wash it out after ten minutes. Because of its intensity, we'd use it once a week at most.

OUAI's Treatment Masque
OUAI is the brain-child of hair stylist to the stars, Jen Atkins. After years spent taming the tresses of Hollywood’s hottest, she decided that the rest of the world should get in on the action too... Et voilà! OUAI was born and booooy are we grateful.

Jen’s hair treatment masques are a must for winter. Each nourishing formula is made from artichoke leaf extract; this locks in moisture but isn't too heavy, so you could apply them every day if needs be! Handy sachets are ideal to use on-the-go if your hair needs some love post-gym – or wherever else. Plus, if you're also suffering from acute-frizz syndrome, then give Jen's miraculous smoothing spray a go; mist onto damp hair prior to drying, and the result will be truly glorious.

Oribe's Split End Seal Serum
Bone-dry, super-brittle hair? This is exactly what you need! Oribe's Split End Seal Serum works to restore split-ends (the clue is in the name) and more dramatic breakage. It’s a UV protectant to boot, infused with oil esters to leave your locks super shiny; even better, minus parabens and sulfates, it smells so good you'll want to use it as a body oil. What more could you ask for?!
