Model, Jess Gold, wears Hourglass Confession Ultra Slim in shade 'I Can't Wait'.

The clocks go back at the end of this month and the weather has a crispness to the air. Our day light is definitely changing to a slightly more grey tone, but that's not to say our makeup should match! When our clothes seems to be lacking much lightness, reaching for some new lip colours is an exciting way to refresh our look when we can see a sudden change in our skin tone.

On the Autumn/Winter 2019 catwalks, Louis Vuitton featured a deep red wine coloured  lip – matt and clearly filled – while Mugler channeled a bright pop of colour on the lip as did Giorgio Armani, with a red hue feathered onto the lip. Meanwhile, Burberry had a soft pink lip – pressed on, even worn by the male models too – and Chanel, Isabel marant, Balenciaga and Maxmara went for soft natural lip tones with a hint of dewiness.

It's a known fact that there is a shift in the way our skin reacts to temperature change when we have a lack of sunlight; those golden old rules of our summer skincare routines (which I am sure we thought we had all pinned down to a tee) now aren't quite cutting it in the same way. Once we can try to gather what our skin needs, whilst we go through that transition, the easiest way to fake the great old tale of still feeling and looking fantastic is to add a great lip colour as it pushes all focus onto your lips and away from unwanted attention.

Its an age-old trick and also a fun change of play! The market is filled with lipsticks, lip lacquers, lip vinyl, lip pencils, lip cushions and lip balms – and there are so many I adore.

Among those, Bobbi Brown's Art Stick – a 'Chubby' pencil in style – it comes complete with its own personal sharpener; it's perfect for applying as you can fill the lip line correctly and gives great colour, texture and has good punch for bright hues too. Meanwhile, Kjaer Weis' lip tint that comes in five shades. Its soft shades of colour add moisture and come in a handy silver slide out; it feels sensual on lips too, especially in the colder conditions when lips begin to need more moisture.

Then there's Pat McGrath Labs – her 'Matterance' lipstick is perfecto for a shine nude coloured lip, not too sticky and the colours really do alter lip colour and work to create vision of volume filling the lip yet still looking real. I wouldn't expect anything less from this makeup guru’s line.
