What… Hairstory’s bio-degradable ‘New Wash’ – a revolutionary concept where shampoo and conditioner work in tandem via a single pump.

Why…
Unlike usual shampoos, this detergent and synthetic-free all-in-one cleanses without stripping, while simultaneously conditioning with a medley of essential oils.

We’re inundated with a plethora of hair washing options. Much like deodorant, shampoo and conditioner are amongst the essentials we’ve been programmed (and don’t have much choice but) to purchase habitually. Often we stick to the same brands and formulas – trusting in these products to do the job just so. But there is another stance to maintenance – a ‘no-poo’ (a.k.a anti-shampoo) movement – presented by Hairstory

On face value, anti-shampoo may raise a few eyebrows – particularly for daily hair washers – but this isn’t about going cold turkey. The movement is about rethinking and questioning the process of stripping the hair to its most squeaky clean to subsequently need to rebuild it back up with conditioner. When you think about it, it’s counterintuitive.

The science of the eco-conscious brand is a no-brainer: lay off the abrasive ‘cleaning’, and combine cleansing and moisturising properties in one blend to in turn save your hair and the environment. Natural oils aren’t lost in the process and straw-like strands are kept at bay.

While the nature of eliminating two products from the equation is innately environmentally-friendly, for Hairstory, their ethical standpoint doesn’t stop there. Crafting their bottles and packaging from biodegradable compounds, complete with an aluminum dispenser for the refilling process, the brand is on a mission to protect and reduce further harm to our oceans with their green ethos. And with Hairstory’s CEO, Eli Halliwell, passionate about water-security, the company subscribes 1% of proceeds to Patagonia founder, Yvon Chouinard’s 1% for the Planet initiative.

All in all, saving your hair, the environment and shower space, Hairstory paints a compelling argument to give ‘no poo’ a whirl – even for the most reluctant sceptics among us.
