Whether or not you believe the future can be read from the palm of your hand, one thing is for sure: they do reveal some truths. Hands bare evidence of our age, our professions and our pastimes. Even Aristotle wrote 2,500 years ago that “Lines are not drawn into the human hand without reason”. However, sometimes that reason is simply the chillsome February weather, mountains of washing up or general clickaty clacking on laptops.

These daily aggressors (permission to describe all household tasks as such from now on) expose our hands to wear and tear that can lead to dry skin, scruffy cuticles and nail breakages. But no fear! We’ve got it covered - it’s time to start pampering your palms and caring for your cuticles!

Rodial’s Vitamin C Deleux Drops
The skin on the back of our hands is very delicate – as delicate as that of the under-eye – and so is hyper-prone to damage. To rectify this, Rodial’s Vitamin C Deleux Drops are formulated with, who’d’ve thunk it, vitamin C which contains antioxidants which protect the surface of the skin, reducing pigmentation and helping to prevent environmental damage.

Lanolips’ 101 The Original Ointment
Palms are tougher, but without any hair (and so sebaceous glands) they can easily dry out, feeling tight and abrasive. Lanolips’ 101 The Original Ointment is an odourless, colourless, non-sticky ointment made from medical grade lanolin. Lanolin mimics the skin’s oils, forming a barrier which allows the skin to self-hydrate. It is perfect for those who suffer with dry skin, or anyone whose hands just need a little winter pick-me-up.

L:A BRUCKET's 102 Bergamot Patchouli Hand Cream
For a good all-rounder everyday hand cream, you can’t go far wrong with L:A BRUCKET’s organic bergamot and patchouli one.  Not only does it smell delish, but it is also enriched with both shea and coconut butter helping to hydrate the skin. The added patchouli leaf oil is a natural astringent and the comfrey helps against skin damage.

Mavala's Scientifique K+ Nail Hardener
As well as the skin on your hands, healthy nails are also important. Swiss brand Mavala are known as masters of hand care. Their Scientifique K+ Nail Hardener is infused with Pro Keratin, which hardens the nail plate to help stop breakages. You only need to use it once a week for the best results, so this little bottle lasts for aaages.

BY TERRY’s Baume de Rose Lip Care
BY TERRY’s Baume de Rose is, according to its packaging, a lip balm. But for those in the know, it makes for the perfect cuticle ointment. Enriched with rose flower essential wax and shea butter, it helps lock in moisture. The added pastel oil encourages cell renewal and the vitamin E and spf help protect against environmental damage. It’s a multi-use wonder.

Rubis Scissors
For all things, it helps to have the right tools for the job. Because clippers can cause damage to the nail by creating tiny tears which encourage the nail to split, it’s best to use scissors. Rubis was known for making tools for Swiss watch makers, including Rolex and Cartier, and have applied the same level of expert care into their beauty tools. Both the Rubis nail and cuticle scissors are crafted from the highest quality stainless steel, with specially hardened blades and a clean alignment offering the most precise cut, whilst still being easy to use.

Margaret Dabbs London Crystal Nail File
Glass files are the least damaging to the nail as they have an almost smooth surface, meaning that the nail can be filed incredibly finely. Podiatry experts Margaret Dabbs London have developed this crystal nail fie which is perfect. You should always file in one direction so as not to damage the nail structure.
