Charlotte Cho knows a thing or two (or three) about entrepreneurial nerve. Known best as the co-founder of Soko Glam, a online marketplace of curated K-beauty products, Charlotte has been a prominent voice in the beauty industry not only as a CEO but as an esthetician and author. (For any skincare newbies out there, Charlotte’s “Little Book of Skincare” will be your bible.) But it doesn’t stop there. In 2018, Charlotte launched her own skincare line Then I Met You. Much to the excitement of Korean skincare lovers, it has since reached the UK via Cult Beauty and her periwinkle-coloured Living Cleansing Balm and Soothing Tea Cleansing Gel have become bathroom cabinet staples. Did we mention that she’s also a new mother?! So, how does she do it all? To sum it up in Charlotte’s words, “It’s chaotic.” But thankfully, the multi-tasking mother is not alone. “Prior to having a baby, I had directed much of my attention on growing Soko Glam, Then I Met You and book writing. Now, I lean heavily on a rock solid support system: my family, friends, and team support and encourage me in this new life stage,” Charlotte explains.

In an industry saturated with new products, techniques, trends and tools, Charlotte has managed to cut through the noise with a little something called jeong. The Korean concept of jeong describes the deep connection we make with others and is the guiding principle of Then I Met You. Over the last year and a half, we have all spent an inordinate amount of time indoors, sometimes alone and/or with a limited amount of social contact, and jeong may just be the thing we need more of in our lives. And that’s exactly why Charlotte wrote her new book The Little Book of Jeong: I believe that the concept of jeong is slowly disappearing. Not just in Korea, but in the world, we are becoming less social, less empathetic and more isolated. I want to shed light on the concept that deep and meaningful relationships are what truly matter in this world. The Little Book of Jeong took 5 years to bring to life, but it was worth it.”

We asked Charlotte our 8Qs to learn more about her daily life when she’s not building her beauty empire.

What is a book that you always come back to and why?
God’s Wisdom for Navigating Life by Tim Keller - such a great way to reflect on life’s challenges, in a short, daily devotional.

What is your morning ritual like?
After changing, feeding and playing with my daughter at 6am, she goes down for her first morning nap. Then I finally get a few minutes to myself: starting with the double cleanse (with Then I Met You’s Living Cleansing Balm and the Soothing Tea Cleansing Gel), toner, essence, and ending with sunscreen. It’s a bit rushed, because there’s so much already on my to-do list, but it’s still my moment to breathe and get the day started on the right foot.

What is the best piece of advice you've received?
It’s cliche, but I believe that “everything happens for a reason.” Something can feel devastating or upsetting in the moment, if it doesn’t go the way you planned. But many times over, I’ve seen that around the corner, there is something that is waiting for you that is better than the original plan. So be patient, and have hope!

What is an ongoing goal of yours?
To always exercise my creativity, to always be learning. There’s always room to grow.

What's your party trick?
I don’t have any, unfortunately! I forgot what it’s like to be at a party!

If you could travel anywhere right now, where would it be?
Seoul! Due to the pandemic, I haven’t been able to visit Korea for over a year and a half-- I miss it so much.

Name something that you're grateful for.
My family’s health.

Name three things that you can't live without.
Currently: My breast pump, a hat (to hide my baby hairs from postpartum hair growth), and a Dyson vacuum to get rid of all the hair that’s falling out. I can’t wait to no longer depend on these things anymore!
