Put on your poppy coloured pout with Valentino’s exclusive release Red, a colour so synonymous with Valentino they have their own Pantone shade! It all began in Spring/Summer 1959 when “Fiesta”, a red tulle strapless cocktail dress was debuted by Valentino Garavani, the founder and fashion designer of his eponymous brand at the time.  At a talk for the 92Y in New York City, Garavani mentioned initially travelling to Barcelona to visit a fellow designer, yet was spontaneously asked to join them for an opening at the Opera house. The entirety of the set was in red, sparking his initial attraction to the bold hue. “I was really attracted by the red colour so I said one day when I am going to be a designer I will put red as my lucky colour—and I did."

In celebration of their brand heritage, Valentino's Creative Director Pier Paolo Piccioli is releasing five shades of lippies exclusive to Selfridges.  Inspired by classic gowns in their signature hue, the shades MATTE 111A, MATTE 22A, SATIN 217A, SATIN 22R and MATTE 219A are just as impactful as their textile cousins - yeah, not with the most evocative of names, but when there are this many subtle shades of red from Valentino, any number will do.
