Since Bella Freud’s ‘1970’ scented candle went viral, the London-based designer has built somewhat of an empire in the fragrance trade. Johnny Depp allegedly burnt ‘1970’, a hedonistic rose de mai infused with saffron scented candle, while filming Alice in Wonderland to get him into character. Bella's 'Ginsberg Is God' sweater went viral pre-Tik Tok and launched a hundred imitator brands who thought they could slap words on an intarsia sweater and stay original, but no. Those in the know know the source of some of the coolest knits around.

The newest scent in her stable is ‘Hot Spell’, a summer-y fragranced candle which comes in a smokey glass jar printed with a gilded signature handwritten label. With refreshing and zesty top notes of grapefruit, orange, lemon and ginger and heady base notes of vetiver, patchouli, oakmoss and musk the candle can be lit day to night with an estimated burning time of 40 hours. “Influenced by the summer heat” Hot Spell will whisk you away from grey January and transport you someplace else where you can feel the sun's warmth on your skin.
