Ever wondered how J-Lo gets her luminous glow? At 54, the actress-cum-singer’s radiant complexion has been a thing of myth since she first appeared on our screen in the 1990s in the comedy show In Living Color. Well, soon-to-be-opened beauty destination Montrose London might just have the answer.

Enter the JLo Beauty Booster Hydrafacial, a treatment type beloved by A-listers and skincare fanatics alike for its techy, but non-invasive procedure, with the queen of good skin’s approval – what’s not to like?

Montrose London, a new clinic located in the heart of Belgravia, exclusively offers the buzzy Hydrafacial packed full of JLo Beauty’s nutrient-rich elixir that helps tighten, brighten, and hydrate skin. As a relative newcomer to facials when I read about the Hydrafacial’s low-impact method, which is essentially a peel, microdermabrasion, and hydrating mask all in one, I was eager to give it a go.

For context, typically my skincare routine consists of very little – a basic cleanse using Glossier’s hero Milky Jelly Cleanser and a liberal lather of any moisturiser I can get my hands on – currently I’m using Elemis Pro-Collagen Rose Marine Cream but that's subject to change when I’m due a (more budget-friendly) refill. I’ve dipped my toes in all kinds of lotions, from drug store to dermatologist-approved, but rarely stray from my 2 step method.

On the day of my treatment, I was greeted by a chic interior, which felt more like a stately home than a typical, sterile clinic. The session started with an optional facial screening, where scans of my skin captured excess oil, sun damage, inflammation and bacteria (eek!) Albeit slightly shocking, the experience came with a bunch of helpful advice and information on what products and changes to my routine might help better my complexion. Key takeaways were more SPF (as expected) and introducing Vitamin C into my regime for added rejuvenation.

After being brought up to date with all the guidance I didn't know I needed, the lights were dimmed and the facial began. For the first step, my aesthetician used a wide tube attached to the machine to perform lymphatic drainage on my face, a type of massage that helps promote the movement of lymphatic fluid out of the body – thought to reduce water retention, swelling and inflammation. Essentially a suction device was moved from the centre of my face down to the sides and neck for about 15 minutes.

Next, was the exfoliation phase. The low-impact process features a handheld device that delivers a controlled stream of water, infused with beneficial serums onto the skin, while an abrasion tool simultaneously exfoliates the outer layer of dead skin cells, unclogging pores and pretty painlessly removing impurities. My skin felt cleansed and plumped in one quick step!

Now for that J-Lo guarantee… in just two minutes my aesthetician pumps a sweet-smelling serum, packed full of soothing Niacinamide, restorative ferments, and protective antioxidants, plus hero product olive leaf extract, which borrows from J-Lo’s skincare tip of applying olive oil to the face morning and night. This step is cooling and refreshing after the former deep exfoliation step, which left my skin feeling instantly gleaming.

After a quick 15-minute snooze under an LED light therapy mask, which is not technically part of the Hydrafacial package but key to intensifying the treatment, my aesthetician started the final step of the therapy. Using a device loaded with hyaluronic acid and peptides to lock in all of the above, my pores got one final pump of nutrients. The final serum’s gel-like texture left my complexion hydrated and shining!

Offering a wide range of benefits, the Hyrdrafacials successfully bridges the gap between medical beauty (which can sometimes be daunting) and a typical relaxing facial. The non-invasive treatment does wonders in getting to the bottom of those otherwise impossible-to-reach impurities that lay beneath the skin, guaranteeing a deep cleanse to reduce the likelihood of breakouts. The Hyrdrafacial left my skin feeling hydrated and rejuvenated for weeks and was the perfect post-summer refresh my complexion needed entering the cooler months.
