With a heat wave in full sweat-box swing, high-summer has officially hit our little old island.

Sun-worship aside (don’t forget the SPF!), there’s plenty to get stuck into – from pulling up a bean bag and pitching camp at London’s largest outdoor cinema, to satisfying your itch for art at the Edinburgh Fringe. Intrigued? Right this way...

Alex Prager: Silver Lake Drive
For those of us who literally can’t wait until they hit the sunny shores of Cornwall and/or Costa Rica (whatever floats your boat!), mise en scène masterpieces of Alex Prager will transport us there in an instant. Amalgamating over 40 super saturated, large-scale photographs, from the fanciful to the ‘banal’ – often technicoloured and realised from an aerial perspective – alongside the artist’s filmic oeuvre, The Photographers’ Gallery’s latest exhibition is one of pure and unadulterated escapism.

The exhibition runs from 15 June to 14 October 2018 at The Photographers’ Gallery, 16-18 Ramillies Street, London, W1F 7LWMain Image by Alex Prager.

Film4 Summer Screen at Somerset House
Bringing our drive-in cinema fantasies à la Grease to life (if you spy Danny Zuko, tell him we’re waiting for him) – with cosy beanbags and blankets in place of the Dodge Wayfarer Convertible – Film4 Summer Screen returns to the courtyard of Somerset House to air iconic cinema.

Gear up for David Lynch’s Blue Velvet, sinister slasher classic A Nightmare on Elm Street, kids-friendly Disney tale Sleeping Beauty, and more. Pass the popcorn!

Film4 Summer Screen runs from 9-22 August 2018 at Somerset House, Strand, London, WC2R 1LA.

Edinburgh Festival Fringe
Lovers of all things creative – be it theatre, music, cabaret, comedy and circus – you’ve come to the right place!
If last year is anything to go by, the self-proclaimed "world’s greatest platform for creative freedom" that is the Edinburgh Festival Fringe is set to take over the Scottish capital with an explosion of creativity from over 50,000 performances across 300 venues. A star entertainment, if you ask us!

Edinburgh Festival Fringe runs from 3-27 August 2018.

Notting Hill Carnival
Europe's biggest (and best!) street festival, Notting Hill Carnival is the one time of the year that go-all-out dancing in the streets of West London is more than encouraged… So, natch, it’s an occasion to make the most of!
Do just that to the beats of dancehall, dub and reggae (blared out from 37 soundsystems), parade alongside steel bands, indulge in Caribbean street food and celebrate London's multiculturalism. Basically, precisely the way that bank holidays are intended to be celebrated.

Notting Hill Carnival runs from 26-27 August 2018.
