Because Magazine’s Little Black Book is far more than your average city guide. An insider directory to London, as seen through the eyes of our friends in fashion, beauty, fitness, food and the arts – all of them, experts in their fields – it’s your go-to Where’s Where for niche and noteworthy recommendations to help you navigate and use our Capital at its best. This week, footwear design extraordinaire, Álvaro González of Álvaro, shares his go-to outdoor oasis in central London.

Where… If it’s not on my terrace on the 20th floor in Marylebone, my favourite spot in London for the sun is a short walk away to Regent’s Park.

WhyI love hanging out by the border of London Zoo so I can watch the giraffes! Also, I love seeing everyone with their dogs since my Weimaraners are back in Florence.

BecauseThe best sandals for the London sun, for me, are our classic Core Alberto – and my new favourite for women is the Aroa in Nappa, because the style is super soft for walking around town!

Having honed his craft over two decades at heavyweight luxury houses like Jimmy Choo, Stuart Weitzman, Valentino and Tod’s, Spanish-born designer, Álvaro González, is the ultimate footwear aficionado.

Channeling his penchant for sandals, 2013 saw Álvaro launch his eponymous namesake line for men and women – founded on exquisite taste, construction, and specially developed materials, like vegetable-tanned craft, alligator, ostrich and stingray, from Italian tanneries and artisanal workshops in Florence.

With his range comprising key open-toe styles like the minimal Ariana feather T-bar sandals and the barely-there Abbi slide, we thought Álvaro made for the only contender to tell us where in London he considers the very best patio space to get our (pedicure-ready) toesies out.
