To our delight, summer in lockdown is proving not to be as scary as we had anticipated. With society slowly opening up around us, the memories of a pre-quarantine world are starting to become a reality. This month sees the addition of browsing our favourite boutiques and dining somewhere other than our homes as part of our ‘new normal’ lives, making our previous life sans corona feel all too familiar – just don’t forget your mask.
Our other favourite pastimes, like going to the theatre or spending a day slowly navigating through a museum are not yet on the table. Fear not! Look to the virtual realm – that we’ve quickly become accustomed to – for your top up of culture throughout July.
The Luna Drive-in Cinema
Going to the cinema may feel like a distant memory, but The Luna Drive-in has brought us a new yet timeless way of watching films during a pandemic. Starting on the 4th of July, a range of films will be showing in a location that isn't your living room! View the classics such as Grease, Pulp Fiction and Jaws, as well as modern blockbusters, like Joker, Rocketman and Knives Out, all from the comfort of your car. Whether you are located in London, Oxford or Leeds, this fantastic social distancing drive-in cinema is the perfect solution to get us back to the big screen. Background noise from other viewers needn’t be an issue; simply wind up your windows and tune into the film’s FM frequency through your gifted in-car wireless speaker, as you watch the movie commence on an outdoor LED screen. So, you’ve packed your duvet and pillows, but you still want a box of popcorn? Don’t worry, as food and drinks can be purchased all from your mobile phone.

Uniqlo Tate Lates: Night In
Pride may look slightly different this year as we celebrate from behind our screens, but the Tate Modern is allowing us to explore the work of LGBTIQ+ artists and visual activists at home, with talks, workshops, film, music and meditation. Part of their Tate Lates event that would usually commence within the gallery, this Pride special can be streamed via two channels on the 3rd of July. Stream 1 is a mixture of artist talks and workshops, where you can hear from artist and activist Ajamu X, and join Wednesday Holmes, a London artist and queer community organiser, to create your own illustrations. Stream 2 allows you to watch ‘Summer Night by The Beach’, selected by Fringe! Queer Film & Arts Fest, and tune into NTS radio for some music and visuals. Instead of coming out for Pride festivities, stay in with these LGBTIQ+ group of artists.
Tate Modern has joined forces with Uniqlo by bringing an artist-led programme direct to you on Friday July 3rd from 19.00–21.00 BST, free entry here.
National Theatre At Home: Les Blancs
The recent Black Lives Matter movement has brought forth a need to educate and reevaluate our stance on the injustices against the BAME community, and Les Blancs couldn’t be revisited at a better time. Written by Lorraine Hansberry and brought to Broadway in 1970, Les Blancs focuses on an African country as it dangles on the edge of civil war, where a society plans to drive out its colonial presence and claim an independent future. Watch the National Theatres 2016 adaptation of Hansberry's most important play, directed by the multi-award winning director, Yaël Farber, on their Youtube page. Get ready to become engulfed into the lives of a family and a nation as things fall apart, as this powerful play confronts the hope and tragedy of revolution.

Bread Ahead’s E-Learning Workshops
If there's one activity that has unified almost all of us during lockdown, it would have to be baking. Luckily for us, Bread Ahead (located in London’s Borough Market), have released their delicious recipes and successful cooking classes into the virtual sphere, in the form of their e-learning workshops. Whether you're a beginner or a professional, you can now learn how to create your favourite Bread Ahead goodies from your own kitchen. Bake focaccia, donuts to cinnamon buns, during the two and a half hour class with an expert baker. You’ll be taken step-by-step through each process, and will even be sent a recording following your workshop so you can re-watch, study, practice and improve on the skills you’ve learnt at your own pace.
