Jonathan Anderson has spent his career creating new silhouettes and pushing the New. As the man responsible for the creative direction of both his own label JW Anderson and Spanish luxury brand Loewe, he doesn’t seem to break a sweat pushing boundaries. Straight off the back of the recent show for his namesake brand in London; and as we gear up for another Loewe show sure to wow in Paris; Jonathan has just announced the launch of the JW Anderson Collections Fund.

Aimed at supporting museums across the UK with the acquisition of underrepresented artworks, the first recipient of the grant is The Hepworth Wakefield, set to receive a generous grant of £50,000 annually. The scheme will provide financial aid to museums and art institutions in acquiring works by artists who have been previously overlooked; joining the crusade in making the art world more diverse in order to support the development of emerging artists.

The Hepworth Wakefield is the inaugural recipient of the JW Anderson Collections Fund, and the first work to be acquired is a large-scale charcoal drawing by the London-based visual artist based, Jake Grewal. It's not the first time the designer has worked with the institution, Jonathan curated, Disobedient Bodies, a major exhibition exploring the human form in art back in 2017.

Jonathan, who is known for his innovative designs and avant-garde approach to fashion, has always had an affinity with arts and culture. This fund is just one of his many efforts to support the UK art scene. Last May it was announced that he would be partnering with The Association of Women in the Arts (AWITA), and in 2018 he created a capsule collection with design duo Gilbert & George. It seems when it comes to the crossovers of art and fashion, Jonathan loves to cross-pollinate - and we can't blame him!
