As the first flurry of Fashion Month invitations flutter their way into the post room (like Christmas, they seem to arrive sooner with every season), it won’t be long until the world-and-its-wife's eyes are fixed on the four traditional sartorial capitals... Alongside the roster of established houses that headline each city, new and innovative designers continue to inspire, making their debut further afield...

The rise of so-called ‘other’ Fashion Weeks – from Sydney to Seoul, to Copenhagen and Tbilisi – has provided multiple platforms for a vanguard of young brands and creatives who are itching to make their presence felt, with social media ensuring that their names will reverberate around the world in a flash.

Kiev-based Nadya Dzyak is a prime example; having debuted her nostalgically elegant label at Ukrainian Fashion Week back in 2008, the former nominee of the schedule’s Best Fashion Award and Discovery of the Year has gone from strength to strength, developing her aesthetic and filling her moodboard with references from film, art and history. For Autumn/Winter 2018, Nadya delved through the archives of French cinematography – namely le grand amour of Alain Delon, the iconic Mireille Darc – and Parisian interiors from a similar golden era, nodding to both via dusky silk jacquard and organza creations that harken to the elegance of yesteryear.

My clairvoyant capabilities may leave a lot to be desired – but I’d safely predict, and put money on it, that we’ll be seeing a lot more of Nadya Dzyak over the coming twelve months. Keep those eyes peeled…
