In the Who’s Who of fabrics, denim has long reigned supreme in the sartorial top spot of total ubiquity – shrugging off threats from summer's silks, and taking challenges from trans-seasonal suedes and leathers in its stride. Never has there been a material that boasts so much wear-everywhere-with-everything clout as denim... Until now!

Dragged kicking and screaming from the farthest recesses of your Grandad’s closet (and no longer the preserve of Classics professors alone) corduroy is the out-and-out victor of FW18. Proffering just enough texture to tap into our seasonal need for cosiness – but not too much so as to compete with hefty shearling, faux fur and the thickest knitwear – this stroke-worthy staple is appearing in guises that range from ultra dolly-cute dresses à la Shrimps and Staud, to what was arguably the #MillennialPink high-street suit that won fashion month (by way of Mango).

Plus, while the sepia-tinged stalwart of the 1970s is well and truly having a moment – fashioned as coffee-flavoured ankle boots by Loeffler Randall, and boxy caramel-hued jackets via The Great and A.W.A.K.E., and everything in-between – a more modern, saturated palette is lending the look all of the whack-bang-wallop that it needs to strike a c(h)ord this Fall.
