Spring/Summer 2019 will hereafter be known as the season of the sartorial bright sparks. From the tie-dye of Proenza Schouler and Stella McCartney, to the eye-searing shades of orange via Alexa Chung and Dries van Noten, and acid-vibrant exaggerated, XXL sloping shoulders from Sies Marjan and Tibi, the key trends have been interwoven with a common thread of 'bold and beautiful'.

Adding to that now is an other-worldly palette of neon that runs the gamut between the hottest fuchsia pink and slime lime green to electric yellow… Who said Hi-Vis wasn’t a look?

Neon isn’t for the faint-hearted – but, likewise, is it not mutually exclusive to ‘underground’ warehouse raves circa 1991. The coming season sees your highlighter kit go under the knife with a chic, grown-up and wearable wardrobe makeover.

Favouring colour-blocking fluorescent shades of (yikes, that’s) yellow, citrus orange and look-at-me green in Milan was Donatella Versace, who outfitted her multigenerational gang of women – of which names included no less than Shalom Harlow and the Hadid sisters – in brighter-than-bright iterations that looked fit for after-hours partying.

Prabal Gurung experimented with bold blocks alongside three-in-one colour combos of all of the above in his collection that was rife with nods to sports uniforms and activewear. And it worked… Very well. Marking his inaugural show that presented both womenswear and menswear in tandem, and starring a beautifully diverse cast of models from over 30 countries, Prabal’s collection excelled in every respect.

While we'll always favour organic when it comes to our diet and beauty regime, SS19’s wardrobe of E-number elegance and additive-laden colourways might just be too appetising to ignore…
