Despite our heatwave being somewhat an anticlimax, we like to look on the bright side: it’s sunny somewhere!

Fantasising about sand underfoot and the costume(s) you’ll find us in is very much our vibe. As synonymous with holibobs as a bottle of SPF and a cringe-factor beach towel, the humble swimming costume prevails year-after-year. Whether a barely-there high-rise as debuted by Pammy in the 80s; fashioned with cut-out panels; or complete with a scooped back, this season’s cozzies, served up in tie-dye, neon and animal print, remind us why we’ll never tire of the staple.

In crinkle-stretch seersucker fabric, Hunza swimwear by Peter Meadows was an 80s icon – think Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. Almost 30 years on, Georgiana Huddart has now resurrected the label with a new moniker, Hunza G, and it’s just as cult now. Faced with packing light and smart, if we had to choose just one style from its new ‘Dynasty’ collection, leopard print in copper and black is a style after our own hearts. Meanwhile, join the counterculture renaissance and continue to surf the tie-dye wave with a lime green and purple iteration from & Other Stories. This one looks right at home with a surfboard underarm and Byron Bay in the distance.

Of course, if print isn’t really your thing and 'less-is-more' is your mantra, opting for black is a failsafe. Norma Kamali’s take on the classic colourway gets our vote, for it embodies the pin-up mood of the 50s with its low-cut halter neckline and ruched soft silhouette. Play up to the retro feel with some cat-eye sunnies to give Marylin a run for her money!

Don't let us stop your cozzie search here – there’s plenty more fish in the sea:
