Since graduating from the Royal College of Art in 2014, London-based, Polish-born and German-raised womenswear designer, Marta Jakubowski, has taken her namesake brand from strength-to-strength.

Gaining support from the British Fashion Council’s NEWGEN initiative to showcase her collections upon graduating, last year saw her shortlisted for the LVMH prize and Woolmark Prize 2018.

To get a first-hand view into the day to day of this rising star designer, we’re asking Marta to turn her lens on her creative world…

"Most mornings, I wake up quite early – around 6am or 6.30am. I go to the gym or for a run in Victoria Park. It helps me to stay sane and start the day in a good mood. I live opposite the park, which makes it quite easy; I walk to Cambridge Heath Station and take the Overground to Seven Sisters where my studio is."

"I love sharing my studio with my friend Mimi Wade. I like that the studio is in Seven Sisters and quite removed from everything else in London; I also love the high ceilings and its big windows.

Right now, we’re listening to Prince… On repeat!"

"My inspirations are mostly memories – and they are always very different. Sometimes they might not even be real memories, but dreams or fears. I sometimes wonder where all those feelings come from and how they connect in the end. It always makes sense… For me at least!

My collections are always inspired by the women in my life. I imagine them wearing the clothes. I want them to feel strong and confident, but especially beautiful, each in their own way. I do what I do, because I believe in it."
