Elegant. Classic. Sophisticated: are all but a few words to describe a Hermès scarf, and since their inception in 1937, that hasn’t wavered. And while we'll always favour the accessory for being a timeless staple, it's always worth shaking up your styling with a modern twist.

With the AW20 Hermès collection having just dropped, we needn't look for inspiration too far from home. Centred around the theme of 'Innovation in the Making', the designers have produced a collection of silks that are as inventive as the styling of them suggests. Continue scrolling to see some of our favourite ways to style the silk sensations, and experiment with the different ways of wearing them yourself.

Asymmetric silk shoulder coverings? We’re here for it, and why not pair with the Silkit bag, that has magnetic calfskin clasps that hold the silk, to easily create another accessory.

The spring/summer trend of this year was the bold shoulder, so why not replicate in a more subdued, but equally as eye-catching way with a silk scarf. This scarf was designed by Hugo Grygkar, and is the modern update of its inspiration point, the classic Brides de Gala, which was first created in 1957.

Bandanas will always give strong ‘Rambo’ vibes, and this Exposition Universelle silk designed by Jan Batlik couldn’t be a better choice for its humorous theme of exploration. Shown as a multicoloured map where dinosaurs frolic under a cloche and penguins dance underwater, what could be better as armour in a new normal world?

Add a pop of colour to an outfit, and drape this Della Cavalleria scarf over your shoulders as a glamorous bib – it's an easy way to elevate a look.

A coordinated outfit will show there’s been thought put into your curation, so why not experiment that with scarfing. Instead of mixing different prints, continue the same but via a different iteration, and match your wrist scarf to your neck.

A two in one is always a wardrobe winner, and we can clearly see this scarf/waistcoat concoction as an autumn staple.
