Made across the pond in New York City, Isabel Bonner's jewellery inhabits the cool and modern effervescence of the brand's hometown, through structural and minimalist design. "I’m charmed by the negative space found in objects and structures, an essential element to the form that easily gets overlooked," shares Bonner. "Collection II plays with this idea of negative space, balance and bold simplicity. For example, the pairing of a boxy shape with the softness of a pearl is intended to feel both minimalist, almost austere, and entirely feminine."

Bonner is inspired by modernist art icons, Barbara Hepworth, Donald Judd and David Smith, and creates jewellery that also act as objet d'arts: beautiful enough to still draw attention even when it's just placed upon your clothes dresser. "The two have never been separate for me. Fashion, the fine arts and democratic design are all continuous and present influences in my work. My hope is that you love your pieces in all contexts."

Creating such strong and geometric jewellery has led to a loyal customer base who, in Bonner's eyes, can't be pinned down to a particular job or image. "My customers span age groups and career paths but they have that relaxed, chic feeling that comes from knowing yourself. They’re strong and comfortable, they wear the jewellery to make an elegant statement." To find out more about this ex-Central Saint Martins student and stylist (she pursued the aforementioned career when she needed a break from jewellery post-graduation) we put our 8Qs to her.

What is a book that you always come back to and why?
One book is too hard! Anything by David Sedaris for the way he makes me laugh or Rebecca Solnit for the way she understands the world. I’m always returning to Margiela: The Hermès Years published by Lannoo and  JUDD, the retrospective on Donald Judd’s work recently published by Moma for inspiration.

What is your morning ritual like?
I really cherish my mornings. The very first thing I do is boil the kettle for a cup of hot water and lemon. I get back into bed, make a to do list for the day and check my phone. Then I make a coffee to go, and take Winnie my dog out for a walk. We do this everyday, rain or shine. In the winter I usually listen to a podcast . But when it’s warmer I prefer to stroll listening to the birds and crickets in the small nature reserve near my flat. It’s very peaceful! When we get back home I light a candle or incense and start working.

What is the best piece of advice you've received?
Achievement comes from grit, not talent.

What is an ongoing goal of yours?
To stay curious.

What's your party trick?
I can light a flip match with one hand, and I know when to go home!

If you could travel anywhere right now, where would it be?
Italy, always Italy.

Name something that you're grateful for.
The abundance of love and connection in my life. I’m so grateful for all the special people I get to call family and friends. And of course, Winnie.

Name three things that you can't live without.
A yoga mat, Warm NY body oil , and a bottle of Pet-Nat!
