It's not uncommon for fashion brands to inspired by art, but rarely does that trickle down to the brand's name. And yet for the new outerwear label on the block, Margot92, that's exactly what happened. "It comes from a painting that inspired us both titled Marguerite Kelsey by painter Meredith Frampton," shares Eefje Dierickx, one half of the founding duo. "'Margot' is a short name for Marguerite; Marguerite Kelsey was a British artist model in the '20s and '30s. She was renowned for her gracefulness. A classic and modern style, the clothes were essential elements of the fashionable 'garconne style' which was created by couturiers Chanel and Patou. We both have a love for art, and this painting resonates with our brand."

Having recently just launched with a limited run of their first collection, their goal is simple: to create the forever piece that you'll never fall out of love with. It's the reason why they've decided to devote their energy into just one product category, explains Eefje. "We really wanted to work on one category versus a full collection to ensure we keep focused and make that one garment perfect. It's a functional piece, protects you from weather conditions, gives you warmth and comfort and at the same time gives you strength and confidence." And what is the Margot92 women like? "She is fun, elegant and effortless!" Just like the brand's muse.

Eefje, as well as her co-founder Ashley Oswald, gave us an insight into their lives in NYC by answering our 8Qs.

What is a book that you always come back to and why?
Eefje Dierickx: Malcolm Gladwell books. He is a master of suspense, even though he is a nonfiction writer, it almost reads like a mystery novel. I only read non-fiction as I like to educate myself when I’m reading.

Ashley Oswald: Emma by Jane Austin. I love this period of literature; it truly is a glimpse into another time and the characters are just unforgettable.

What is your morning ritual like?
ED: I wake up, have breakfast in bed, answer emails from Europe since their day is already almost done when I get up, shower and start to work at 9am with strong Italian coffee.

AO: My day usually starts at 7am. I wash and sunscreen my face. Get my daughter and myself ready, have breakfast then head out as a family to go to our local coffee shop for my latte before settling in to work.

What is the best piece of advice you've received?
ED: No you have, yes you can get: my grandmother.

AO: Always trust your instincts.

What is an ongoing goal of yours?
ED: Make sure our Margot92 coats will be a household coat name and in many women's closets.

AO: For Margot92 to be a go-to outerwear brand.

What's your party trick?
ED: I am a master of pranks, when it's the first of April everybody who knows me stays far away from me!

AO: I try not to embarrass myself doing tricks but if asked, I can still do the splits – does that count?

If you could travel anywhere right now, where would it be?
ED: I’m going to travel to Italy soon where I will finally be reunited with family and friends after two years! (with Covid and travel restrictions I wasn't able to go back and forth).

AO: Japan, its been at the top of my list for some years now.

Name something that you're grateful for.
ED: Being interviewed/featured in 8Qs, and working with an amazing partner in crime, Ashley!

AO: My daughter, husband, talented partner Eefje and our amazing team.

Name three things that you can't live without.
ED: Family, friends and a nice warm coat ;)

AO: Books, my trench coat and red wine.
