What is it about felt that Pia Wallén loves? Quite simply, it's "the tactility and the poetic charisma," that intrigues the renowned Nordic designer, who's known for her use of the material throughout her decades long career. She studied fashion design at the Beckman’s College of Design in Stockholm during the mid eighties, and quickly made a name for herself when she launched her label in the early 90s. Using both homeware and fashion as her medium, Pia is always inspired by traditional Swedish folk craft techniques and patterns, despite making inherently modern creations. "I'm always working with one part in a historical context and one in the present," she says. "The material, techniques, construction and the mix of colours; this is how I honour the tradition."

It's not only Pia that believes these Scandinavian crafts should be honoured. ARKET have recently partnered with her as part of their Nordic Stories series, which presents collaborations with independent creators and cultural institutions from that region. "Pia Wallén has a fantastic eye for creating statements out of every single object she designs. Each piece is powerful and interesting," says Anna Teurnell, ARKET Head of Design. "It’s not that common in Scandinavian design, yet to me, her work has something very Nordic to it." Whilst in keeping with the Scandi brand's minimalist aesthetic, the capsule includes tailored overcoats and puffer skirts in pops of peach and shamrock, keeping the balance between them being timeless staples as well as a refreshing piece of design.
