Nothing stops Melinda Zeman.

"If the pandemic taught me anything, it is that we only have one shot at living and it flies by much faster than we realise."

Having given birth to her fourth child, Melinda was on the search of a creative outlet, having spent a lot of her career working in marketing and advertising. It's the reason why Boochier, her bold and beautiful jewellery brand, was born, stemming from a lifelong obsession with the accessory that started with her grandmother. "Everyday she would either dress in a traditional button up Chinese style pant suit or a cheongsam if she was feeling a little fancier," explains Melinda, sharing that it was her, who didn't speak a word of English, who first showed how transformative jewellery could be to one's mood. From there, the obsession continued through the lifestyle that many of us were inspired by, or even aspired to, as kids: pop culture. "Everything was just so iconic in the 90s," the decade in which Melinda grew up watching Jennifer Lopez’s plunging Versace dress at the Grammys and seeing the colourful crop tops and baggy pants TLC would wear. "From the fashion to jewellery and we hope to bring a big time ode to 90’s nostalgia through Boochier."

Her jewellery certainly brings a smile to one's face, one that childhood memories of that decade also does. The pieces elude elegance and confidence whilst tapping into the turn of the millennium's zeitgeist, making them the perfect piece for any millennial who learnt how to spell 'bananas' via Gwen Stefani. "Our clients are bold, brave, independent and have a good sense of humour, and we hope our pieces can reflect this accurately," shares Melina. "I want them to feel empowered and extremely playful!"

And Melinda's advice for getting things done? "Don’t let the fear of the unknown get in the way of trying."

What is a book that you always come back to and why?
Becoming by Michelle Obama. Because it shows the power we all have as individuals. Each person has the power to change the course of history whether its you personally, the children you raise, the people who look up to you as a role model or a comment you make to a stranger. I think the world would be a different place if we all understood the magnitude of our actions and decisions.

What is your morning ritual like?
My mornings are extremely hectic with four young kids! Its normally a rush against time to leave the house. This year they will all be in school full day, which will provide some much needed respite!  I’ve given up on no tv during breakfast for now as since Covid, it has become a sacrifice I am willing to make (along with many other previously implemented rules!).

What is the best piece of advice you've received?
Always keep an open mind and open ears, never stop learning, no one has all the answers.

What is an ongoing goal of yours?
Be more organised!

What's your party trick?
Cantopop/Mandopop karaoke!

If you could travel anywhere right now, where would it be?
Forte dei Marmi in Italy.

Name something that you're grateful for.
Growing up with a grandmother that didn’t speak a word of English.

Name three things that you can't live without.
Family, friends, my dogs!
