We’ve seen sky-high platforms, strappy stilettos and all-around uncomfortable shoes dominate runaways for as long as time; and while their antithesis, the humble trainer, provides guaranteed comfort it's hard to find their instantly casual aesthetic particularly awe-inspiring. The recent return of the study loafer, however, is a practical alternative to heels and a smarter choice than trainers, offsetting hyper-feminine outfits with a sleek and sophisticated edge.
Rumour has it that when the curtain dropped on Miu Miu’s Autumn/Winter 2023 show back in February, editors lined up backstage to get a look at the brand’s latest lustful shoe offering. But the sleek shiny brogues, branded with the iconic Miu Miu logo, which trotted down the runway, were not just the crafty work of Miss Prada and her diligent design team but instead created in collaboration with heritage shoemakers Church’s.
The UK-based luxury footwear manufacturer (conveniently also owned by the Prada Group) knows a thing or two about brilliant footwear, with a history traceable all the way back to the early 1600s. And we’ve fancied a pair of Church’s polished shoes prior to endorsement from the brand of the moment Miu Miu. Past collaborations have seen the shoemakers work with Erdem, paring romantic, Victoriana dresses with the sturdy shoe and OffWhite, who pasted its logo on the side of a glossy pair.
Today, Church’s x Miu Miu has officiated the marriage made in heaven with two new silhouettes, a classic brogue and double monk strap available in black and tobacco, both patterned with classic perforations. Blending gentlemanly British craftsmanship with the feminine preppy aesthetic Miu Miu does so well, the collaboration lands online on August 29 and is the house's latest foray into the world of footwear, after its acclaimed sneaker collab with New Balance and smart re-imaging of the penny loafer.
When not pining after the multi-strap kitten heels that also featured in the collection, these smart flats go great with a pair of sequin emblazoned knickers and 15 denier tights because whatever Miuccia says, goes!
Shop Church’s x Miu Miu from August 29th on miumiu.com from August 29 and in Miu Miu stores from September 6th.
