This autumn, fashion editor Kate Phelan takes the wheel behind this season’s Weekend Max Mara Signature Collection. Weekend Max Mara 24 by Kate Phelan, features wardrobe staples that hone in on the fashion house’s essential codes of great outerwear, strong tailoring, luxury knits, and versatile separates, with flourishes of Kate’s aptitude for colour and cut.
Weekend Max Mara is no stranger to collaborative efforts for its Signature Collections. They frequently join forces with industry leaders, which also includes model Lily Aldridge and architect and designer Patricia Urquiola, to curate an exclusive selection of wardrobe essentials.
Formerly Topshop's creative director, after more than two decades working at British Vogue, Kate exemplifies how contemporary editors continue to assert their pivotal role as trendsetters, consultants, and even designers.
“I have always loved the proportions of men’s clothes on women,” says Kate, “I wanted the collection to reflect my style and the clothes I love to wear, capturing the enduring appeal of classics and well-made pieces.”
Marrying Kate’s affinity for blending masculine and feminine styles with Weekend Max Mara’s classic aesthetic and rich heritage, the collection focuses on timelessness. Kate drew inspiration from a Vogue story dating back to 1982, which still exudes the same level of relevance after decades.
The collaboration features a cosy tweed pencil skirt, a cobalt blue slip dress, a signature crisp white cotton shirt and woollen knits fit for layering. In signature Max Mara style each look is topped by handsome outerwear, from a double-face wool robe coat and Donegal tweed Crombie to a timeless green oversized parka. In a departure from Weekend Max Mara’s typically muted (but wholly wearable) offering, expect lively geometric prints inspired by the loud graphics of The Face magazine back in the 80s.
