Gucci’s new Love Edition of their Gucci Guilty parfum is a tribute to the narcissus flower.
The classic version of the tale of Narcissus was written by Ovid. It describes how Narcissus was walking in a forest when Echo, a wood nymph, spotted him and fell deeply in love. She revealed herself to him but he rejected her, leaving her alone and broken hearted. Nemesis, the goddess of revenge, decided to punish Narcissus by luring him to a pool of water where he became entranced by his own reflection and unable to leave eventually turned into a gold and white flower.
Gucci Guilty Pour Femme is centered around this flower. The initial bloom of bergamot and grapefruit mellow into notes of violet and jasmine, enlivened with raspberry. A bright chypre, there is a subtle grounding of musk, patchouli and amber, but the power remains with the top floral fruity notes.
Gucci Guilty Pour Homme is a verdant fresh fougère, based on vetiver blended with aromatic woods. There is pink pepper to add a little energy and subtle citrus notes of ginger, mandarin and kumquat alongside earthy florals from the rosemary and lavender.
The collection has been released in celebration of the first anniversary of Forever Guilty Gucci and ‘explor[es] both the male and female gaze’. Dedicated to ‘eccentric lovers’, the scents, and the story behind them, invite us to consider unconventional, unrequited or unparalleled love.
