There's one trend that has cast a spell on the beauty community in recent months and its witch-inspired makeup. With #WitchTok amassing over 48 billion views, Witches are something of a moment in wellness, beauty and beyond. From smoky eyes, and a dark lip to an ethereal glow of luminous skin, the spooky theme crept its way into shows throughout fashion month, here’s our pick of witch-inspired make-up looks straight from the runway.

At Dior, make-up artist Peter Philips was given a two-word brief ahead of the SS24 show: witchy lips. Instead of a predictable pitch-black lip, Peter went for a softer, wine-stained effect on bare lips. His tool of choice: a black eyeliner. He lined the inner lips with a shadow of black and blended it out with a dab or deep rouge, to balance the contrast between the liner and the model’s natural lip colour.

Victoria Beckham’s make-up artist Fara Homidi applied spidery false lash extensions to the models for an eerie effect; while Rick Owen’s army of models, who stomped the floors of the Palais De Tokyo in towering heels, wore creepy black contact lenses as expected of the designer's typically more sullen shows. Balenciaga’s closing make-up look channelled Tim Burton’s 2005 Corpse Bride, with smudged eyeliner just about visible from under the model’s white lace veil.

In London, Ashley Williams enlisted the help of the queen of alternative glam, Isamaya Ffrench to manage the make-up looks. Isamaya created looks fit for the apocalypse-themed show, including what she called “bin bag liner”. The model's undereye sockets were accentuated with dark brown eyeshadow, blended out and coated in a layer of gloss – the overall effect looked like something straight out of the Night of the Living Dead. Isamaya also created equally haunted looks for Junya Watanabe, featuring ethereal luminous skin and pinpoint pupils and Mowalola, where models appeared battered and bruised.

Edward Crutchely presented his SS24 show in a gothic church, so it was only fitting that several models' eyes were smeared with dark, blended-out liner to complement the setting. Daniel Lee’s vision for Burberry, which honoured the English Country Garden, even had a shady twist with deep forest green lipstick to match the dark subverted florals that the designer presented for this third collection for the heritage house.
