Because, while everything from classic suiting to boldly printed dresses make up my daily sartorial fare, I feel like I got comfortable last year and opted for that "from desk to dinner" choice a little too often. So, it’s high time to bring out the major evening players and get some proper ooooh-factor... For no-one else, but me!
The transformative powers (both physically and mentally) of a truly red-carpet creation are pretty special. Take this mega gold number by OSMAN; Osman Yousefzada is a master of 'nonchalance glamour'. In fact, so many women agree that last year he opened up a four-storey townhouse in Fitzrovia, quickly followed by a concept store in Covent Garden’s rejuvenated Floral Street.
Osman’s love of decadent colours, textures, and sculptural draping is embedded in each and every one of his collections – and in his own retail expressions, he surrounds the clothes with artworks, transferring an iconic and totemic quality to them.
Gilding the lily of January (because goodness knows, it’s necessary), this molten metallic number from the current Resort 2019 collection is a, quite literally, shining example of a designer who knows that glamour is BACK.
We shot it in our Central London office, where I got to test-wear it while catching up on some scanning – looking for any excuse to go big and bold... And it worked! My colleagues, normally blasé about my colourful suiting, were overtly appreciative. (Trust me, that doesn’t happen often.)
So, this month, when all we really want to do is hunker down and hibernate in a swathe of sumptuous knitwear, I’m championing the idea of #DressUpJanuary – in 24-karat style!
